A Record-Breaking Day: The Second Annual Tribe Lift Off

By Elizabeth Stofflet

2 minute(s)

On August 24th, our Tribe community came together for an unforgettable event, our second annual Tribe Lift Off! This year, we set a new record with an impressive number of Tribe athletes stepping up to the platform to showcase their strength, skill, and determination.

Our gym was buzzing with energy as people of all ages gathered to cheer on the competitors. The event was a celebration not just of athleticism, but of community spirit, as friends, family, and fellow Tribe members filled the space with their enthusiastic support. A special shoutout goes to Coach Marie Salazar and the entire Tribe Barbell Club team for their incredible effort in organizing this event, your hard work made this whole day possible!

In the spirit of Mamba Mentality, we honored the late, great Kobe Bryant on Kobe Day by channeling his legendary drive and perseverance. The competition was fierce, but the camaraderie and encouragement among the athletes was even stronger.

“Those times when you get up early and you work hard. Those times when you stay up late and you work hard. Those times when you don’t feel like working, you’re too tired and you don’t want to push yourself…but you do it anyway. That is actually the dream. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.”

-Kobe Bryant

The event saw ten women, ten men, and one youth competitor take the stage, each giving their all in three attempts at both the snatch and the clean & jerk. In the women’s category, Hannah DeRose secured 1st place, with Genessee Quizon taking 2nd and Penney Nguyen finishing in 3rd. On the men’s side, Juan Pablo Zaragoza claimed 1st place, followed by Zane Bermuda in 2nd, and Bart Evans rounding out the top three in 3rd place. A special congratulations to our youth competitor, Mateo Limbo, who not only took home 1st place but also set several new personal records!

We are so proud of all the athletes who competed, you embodied the true spirit of Tribe, and your dedication and hard work were evident in every lift. Congratulations to all of you!

As we look ahead, we can’t wait to see this event grow even bigger and better next year. Mark your calendars, because the Tribe Lift Off is only going to get stronger from here. We look forward to seeing you on the platform in 2024!
